Wentworth duo on the charge

Daily Mail
28 May 2019

WENTWORTH’S Leyton Hardwick and Neil Gillam have hit a hot streak in The Daily Mail Foursomes charging into the fourth round, writes Cara Sloman.
The Surrey duo were always in command on the famous West course, where the world’s top professionals will be competing in September at the PGA Championship. They comfortably finished off North Down’s Dan Homewood and John Wilson 7&5 to move another step closer to the October finals.
Hardwick said: ‘I love foursomes as it also tests you mentally. I think I only had two putts through the first eight holes, due to how the holes went, so you have to stay focused as you don’t really get in to a rhythm.
‘We played solid par golf, which is what you have to do in this format - keep the ball in play and usually par is good enough.’
Hardwick is determined to make the most of the pair’s run in this year’s tournament as his last attempt was cut short when he had to withdraw after dislocating his thumb.
He said: ‘Neil and I make a great team. We play a lot of golf together and know each other’s games very well. His 12 and my two handicap seem to be a good combination.’
Wentworth last reached the finals in 2011 when lan Healy and Alex Paramor, son of chief European Tour referee John Paramor, finished runners up.
If Hardwick and Gillam are to seal a coveted spots in the grand finals they need to continue their winning form through four more rounds.
This year the last 16 men’s and women’s team will compete on the sensational championship Hunting Course at Slaley Hall in Northumberland.
