Chichester battle into last 64

Daily Mail
17 Jul 2018

KATHY DONOHOE and Sang Porter produced a gutsy sudden-death display and some enviable putting skills to earn Chichester a spot in the last 64 of The Daily Mail Foursomes, writes Cara Sloman.
In a test of nerves, the home pair finally wrapped up the match against Lee-on-the-Solent's Celia Green and Joan Pendle at the second extra hole. This was in spite of Chichester giving a shot on each play-off hole, landing in a ditch at the 19th and a pond at the 20th.
'It was a real battle. It could have gone either way,' said Donohoe after the memorable match.
In the decider Donohoe first sank a testing eight foot putt to keep them in the tie, then it was Porter, who holed out from ten feet before their opponents missed a three foot putt to halve the hole and extend the match.
Donohoe added: 'Somewhere, something happened on the first and second. We both sunk the putts and that’s what did it. I don't know how my putt went in at 19. Eight out of ten times I think I'd miss it.’
Earlier in the match Chichester had been one up going down the last, but Donohoe admitted the tension had affected her game allowing Lee-on-the-Solent to level the tie and take it into extra time. 'I didn't keep my nerves in check at the 18th. I went in the bunker. I've not been in one for about three years. That's what the pressure did,' she said.
They now have two rounds left to negotiate to reach the grand finals held at the Marriott St Pierre in October.
Donohoe, who has come close to reaching the showdown before said: 'It would be lovely to get there just once and experience it. I know people who have got there and won it. It would be lovely just to savour the atmosphere and be part of it.'
