ENFIELD’S Michael Peak and Alex Casey swept into the fifth round of The Daily Mail Foursomes with a commanding win in what is a historic year for the North London club, writes Cara Sloman.
The pair, who are hoping to mark their club’s 125 anniversary by reaching the grand finals at Marriott St Pierre in October; beat Ealing’s Philip Bentley and Alastair Campbell 4&2 at home after winning five successive holes on the back nine.
‘We enjoy the foursomes, but can test each other’s patience at times. We’re both trying to get as far as we can in the competition and just see where it goes,’ said Peak. They now travel to Harewood Downs in the next round
Elsewhere Camberley Heath, who made it to the finals 10 years ago are on the charge again, this time thanks to the Berkshire county champion Sheree Dove-Wilde and teammate Beverley Moss.
The pair beat Arlene Castle and Eilean Cunningham from the Army 4&2 at home after closing out the win with a birdie.
On form Dove-Wilde, who beat former Senior British Open Amateur Champion Laura Webb to take the county title in April said: ‘We are enjoying the tournament and are amazed we’ve done okay, so far. I enjoy the format enormously, as it relies on good team work and cooperation.’
The duo, who face Merrist Wood away in the fifth round, need to win three more matches if they are to repeat the club’s former success and reach the last 16.
