Burton on Trent ladies hope for Finals return

DEBBIE EAGLEFIELD is closing in on a return to the grand finals of The Daily Mail Foursomes, after the Burton-on-Trent player and teammate Anita Chamberlain kept their nerve in a tense play-off at Ashbourne to snatch a place in the fifth round, writes Cara Sloman.
The six handicapper, who reached the showpiece event at the Marriott St Pierre 18 years ago, would love a second shot at the title on the famous South Wales course after being ousted in the last 16 while representing her old club The Craythorne.
She said: ‘I want to get back there. I’m telling Anita this is real and what to expect if we get any further. It was a great thing to do and I loved the course. This was a very tense match which both clubs wanted to win.’
They were pushed all the way in the back and forth contest by their Derbyshire rivals Sandra Maxwell and Anne Colwell, who rallied to win the last and take the match into extra time. It was Chamberlain though who kept her cool and sunk an eight foot downhill putt to seal victory at the 19th for the visitors.
They now stand three matches away from a place in the October showdown.
