Cosby pair eager to seize second chance

Daily Mail
15 May 2018

FORMER runners-up Luke Burrows and Matt Peyton are driven by unfinished business in this year’s Daily Mail Foursomes, writes Cara Sloman.
It is the first time the duo have qualified to represent Cosby since they came tantalisingly close to lifting the trophy three years ago, when they were beaten in the grand final by Mendip, 3&2.
‘We were obviously pleased to go as far as we did, but we want to go one better. We came up against a better pair on the day in the final,’ said Leicestershire county player Burrows, who plays off plus one.
The pair needed to win the club’s foursomes competition to get a second chance to make amends for the previous defeat and Burrows, 26, added: ‘We’ve got quite high expectations of ourselves. We go out to win every week, but we’ll accept it if we get beaten by the better pair on the day.
‘We’ve both got strengths that complement one another in the format, especially round our course.’
They demonstrated these skills on their parkland course when they beat Moor Hall’s David Calvert and Michael Sandoz 3&1 to move into the fourth round.
The pair fired three birdies and were in control from the start, always leading by at least two holes after going two up after two. It was a notable scalp, as Moor Hall from Sutton Coldfield were the 2006 champions.
Cosby have four matches left to negotiate to return to the showpiece event, which will be staged at Marriott St Pierre in Chepstow in October.
The last 16 men’s and women’s teams will battle it out on the famous South Wales course which has hosted the British Masters and the Solheim Cup.
