Boston player follows father to Finals 30 years on

BOSTON hit the winning bullseye when they knocked out darts star Mervyn King and ex-golf professional Barry Wortley to land a place in the Daily Mail Foursomes finals, writes Cara Sloman.
King, a former world No.1 and still competing at the highest level, has won many major titles including the World Masters, Dutch Open and British Open, but it was Andrew Green and Andy Dawson who took the prized spot in the showpiece event at Marriott St Pierre next month, comfortably beating the pair from Great Yarmouth & Caister 4&2 at home.
Green, off five, said: ‘I actually watch quite a bit of darts, so I knew who he was. You take any sportsman on at any sort of game, no matter what sport it is, they are obviously very keen to win.
‘I was looking forward to a really tight game, but we got off to a good start and it didn’t materialise into a close game.
‘I’d have liked to have spoken to him a bit more about darts, but I think he was concentrating on the game which is understandable. He’s a professional and he wants to do his best.’
Green’s partner, Dawson is following in his father's Terry's footsteps, 30 years after he also reached the finals of the world’s largest golf competition representing the same Lincolnshire club.
‘It was one of the driving points for him,’ said Green. ‘His dad won the first match and lost in the quarter finals. Andy is hoping to go further and get one up on his dad.’
In the meantime Green will find time to practise his putting and chipping before the finals and said: ‘Foursomes is possibly our favourite game. It's the way it focuses the mind. You have to be on your game at all times. It’s just pure golf.’
