Plucky Lansil rallied to produce a spirited sudden-death comeback to knock-out Bentham in the Daily Mail Foursomes second round, writes Cara Sloman.
Suzanne Riley and Sandy Armistead recovered from being two down to level the match and force extra holes, before going on to beat Bentham at the 19th.
‘I was not happy about playing the first again,’ said Riley. ‘We’re a nine hole course and we had already lost this hole twice during the match. They parred it both times.’
But in a reversal of fortunes, it was the home side’s turn to par the first to seal a victory over Cath Halstead and Agnes Crohill.
Riley said: ‘You never know in golf. You’ve got to keep going and never give up. It was a very friendly match with very nice ladies.’
Despite only having a small women’s section Lansil are determined to enter the largest golf tournament in the world every year and they now travel to Morecambe in the third round.
‘We’re a very, very small club with only about 10 or 12 members. There’s a tight small group of us. We stick together,’ added Riley.
Durham City look strong contenders in the men’s competition after they comfortably knocked out South Moor 4&3 at home to secure a third round match against INEOS.
David Bell, off four and scratch golfer Andy who are not related, are enjoying their run.
David said: ‘On our day we’re quite capable beating anyone around anywhere, however home draws are a lot easier, as they don’t know our course as well as we do.
‘We’re looking forward to the next one.’
