Copeland brothers make round 2 win a family affair

BROTHERS David and Robert Copeland booked Bourn a place in the third round of The Daily Mail Foursomes after snatching victory at former finalists and neighbours Cambridge Meridian, writes Cara Sloman.
It is the first time they have paired up to represent the club in a major competition and they have found there are advantages to making it a family affair.
‘We won’t fall out,’ said David, 52. ‘Robert knows my strengths and weaknesses and vice versa, it helps.’
It was a close encounter at Cambridge Meridian. The visitors had a good start going three up after five, but the home pairing hit back to make it all square on the 14th.
Cambridge Meridian's Harry Tteralli, who reached the last 16 in 2012, and his partner John Summers looked like they had done enough to force a decider, when they buried a 40 foot birdie putt at the last. The siblings, however had a shot and Robert, 55, replied by nailing a 12-foot pressure putt for a par which meant they finished one up.
David is realistic about their chances. He said: ‘We’ve enjoyed it so far, but we know it will get tougher. It’s all on the day.’
In the first round they were delighted to have beaten one of their biggest rivals Royston, 3&2. 'My brother was a member there for about 25 years. That was the one he wanted to win more than any other one.’ said David.
This year’s finals will be held in October at the Marriott St Pierre, Chepstow, which has hosted the Solheim Cup and the British Masters.
