TWO pairings are over halfway to making an immediate return to finals week at the Daily Mail Foursomes, having won through four of the seven rounds before this year’s showpiece event.

Anne Main and Lynne Thom, of Burntisland Golf House, reached the quarter-finals at the Marriott of Arden in October before losing to eventual finalists Debbie Deakin and Shelley Woodward.

Now the Scottish women are just three wins away from reaching finals week at Marriott St Pierre this October after beating Lochgelly’s Ann Shepherd and Ruth Kinnell 5&3 in the fourth round.

Hornsea’s Leigh Gawley and Rees Brown reached the last 16 in October before losing to Royal Norwich’s Adrian Myhill and Greig Shepherd.

And the East Yorkshire pairing are also closing on another finals week appearance after also sealing a 5&4 victory, over Hull’s Ben and Joey Thornham, in the fourth round.

It was the last century when Martin Scothern reached finals week, but he is closing on a return 18 years later after he and Coxmoor clubmate Fraser Darrington won their fourth-round match 4&3 against Matlock’s Phil Evans and Richard Giles.
