Change of club changes fortune for former champions

Daily Mail

FORMER champions Linda Reeve and Elaine Meagher flew into the third round of the Daily Mail Foursomes under the radar after moving clubs.

But a change of clubs brought an unwanted change in fortunes as the
2013 champions bowed out in that third round.

Linda and Elaine represented the Hertfordshire course of Little Hay when they lifted the women’s trophy three years ago, the last time it was contested at Marriott St Pierre.

Following their move 10 miles up the road to the Harpenden course of Aldwickbury Park, they breezed through the first two rounds of this year’s tournament, beating Redbourn’s Linda Hill and Laura Marriott by two holes in the first round before an emphatic 7&5 triumph over South Beds’ Anne Mooney and Trina Close in the second round.

However, there will be no trip back to Marriott St Pierre when the finals return to the Chepstow venue in October following a 3&2 defeat by Verulam’s Loretta Ashby and Susan Holiday in the third round.

At least they did better than Little Hay’s representatives in this year’s women’s competition. Suzanne Brady and Lesley O’Brien were beaten 5&4 by Moor Park’s Jan Lansdowne and Sarah MacAlpine in the second round.

They in turn were beaten 4&2 in the third round by Denham’s Penny Brewer and Amanda McCallum.

All clubs must win through seven rounds to reach finals week, contested by the last 16 pairings in both the men’s and women’s tournaments.
