Famous five hope for men's and ladies finalists

WITH two rounds to play before the finals week line-ups are settled, five clubs still have a chance of sending both their men’s and women’s pairings to the Marriott Forest of Arden showpiece.

Stuart Aspinal and Jamie Edgar along with Sally Collier and Jules Tarr, from the Castle Royle club in Maidenhead, all won through the fifth round, as did Epping’s Steve Rowe and Luke Leggett as well as Tracy Cawley and Kathy Simmons.

Scotland will be looking for Alan Groves and Richie Paul as well as Agnes Cosgrove and Dorothy Wilson, of the Harburn club in West Lothian, to go all the way, having also all reached the sixth round, while Porthmadog’s Peter Emmanuel, Bleddyn Williams, Pip Settle and Debra Herbert are flying the Welsh flag as they look to put the name of the Gwynedd links on both foursomes trophies in October.

Walmley golf club, in the West Midlands, is only 15 miles from the Marriott Forest of Arden finals venue, so their men’s pairing of Martin Harris and Alex McWhinnie and the women’s pairing of Beverley Fiddes and Pauline Gibbon can expect plenty of support should they all win through two more rounds to reach the last 16 draws.
