Hat-trick of aces in round two

Daily Mail

NO FEWER than three players have recorded holes in one during the second round of the Daily Mail Foursomes.
However, the hat-trick of aces helped produce winning hands for only two of their pairings.
Hexham’s Kim Steward, 52, managed his first hole in one after 25 years playing the game at the fourth hole at Bellingham.
But Kim and playing partner Rob Bull still found themselves three down with four to play against the home side’s Phil Spottiswood and Robin Banks..
Kim was able to celebrate only after the visitors reeled off wins on each of the last four holes to clinch victory in a remarkable match by one hole.
Bury St Edmunds’ Fiona Glasswell was also celebrating after recording her hole in one at her club’s 13th hole as Fiona and Molly Smith recorded a convincing 4&2 victory over Thetford’s Heather Keeble and Susan Pitcher.
However, Sheila Jones, of Dolgellau, would have been less inclined to raise a glass after her hole in one at the seventh hole at Borth & Ynyslas in Wales’ Cardigan Bay.
Sheila and playing partner Beryl Norgrove still went down to an emphatic 5&3 defeat by the home club’s Jane Raw-Rees and Karen Evans.
At least Sheila enjoyed one celebration last week as she toasted her 60th birthday on holiday in Greece.
The finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes will be played at the Marriott Forest of Arden in October.
