Last hole matches secure Finals place

Daily Mail

AS the finalists in the Daily Mail Foursomes look forward to three days of luxury at Marriott Dalmahoy next month, spare a thought for those who, but for that one putt that lipped out or that one wonky drive, would have joined them.
Oxford City’s Sam White and Ryan Allen went all the way to the first extra hole in the seventh round, the winners in which qualify for finals week at the Edinburgh venue, but that is where their journey ended as they were edged out by Mal Trouve and Dan Edwards, from Charnwood Forest.
Five other pairings went to the final hole of the final round before finals week but no further. Mendip’s Neil Clark and Andrew Jones lost out to Killiow’s Roger Hoare and Matt Paton by one hole, as, in the women’s event did Porters Park’s Anita Healy and Anita Prosser, to Northamptonshire County’s Sue Barrick and Stephanie Goodings, and Painswick’s Sarah Taylor and Kate Dennison, to Vale of Glamorgan’s Zena Jackson and Ann Yorston.
High Elms’ Kate Brown and Pauline Weeks and Wrekin’s Sue Pidgeon and Rosemary Stubbs went to the 18th still in with a chance, despite trailing by one hole. But both ended up going down by two holes, although that meant South Staffs’ Helen Barrett and Penelope Toal and Coombe Hill’s Elaine Kim and Anna Suh will be joining the party in Scotland.
