Hersham Village play away on famous Sunningdale Old Course

THE ladies of Hersham Village knew they were in for a treat when two of Britain’s top clubs clashed in the third round of the Daily Mail Foursomes.
The old course at Sunningdale regularly features among Britain’s top 10 golf courses, with the new course not far behind, while Wentworth boasts three of the country’s leading lay-outs, including the west course, which hosts the BMW PGA Championship.
So Hersham Village’s Susan Akers and Nicola Slatter must have been delighted when they were drawn to travel to the winners of the third-round clash between the big Berkshire-Surrey rivals.
As it turned out, Sunningdale’s Sophie Durlacher and Wendy Marley earned the right to host the fourth-round clash when they beat Wentworth’s Christine Soden and Karen Johnson 3&2.
And Sophie and Wendy continued to close in on the finals when they triumphed 4&3 over their Hersham Village rivals in the fourth round.
Another course which regularly features in lists of top 100 golf courses is the revamped east course at Marriott Dalmahoy, which has hosted the Solheim Cup, the Scottish PGA Championship and the Scottish Seniors Open, and the luxury venue outside Edinburgh will again host the finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes in October.
Pairings have to battle through seven rounds to reach finals week, for the last 16 pairs in the men’s and women’s events, and they will battle it out over four more rounds over two days to find the winner of each event.
