Fifth round second year running for Stourbridge

Daily Mail
15 Jul 2014

LOUISE BENNETT and Biddy Denton are closing in on an immediate return to finals week in the Daily Mail Foursomes.
The Stourbridge golfers reached the last 16 in October, and they are still going strong this time around after a fourth-round victory over Halesowen’s Elaine Povey and Chris Stokes.
However, they were taken all the way by their West Midlands rivals before triumphing by just one hole.
Patricia Nixon went all the way to the final last year before Ely City clubmate Elaine Bertram and herself lost to champions Elaine Meagher and Linda Reeve, from Little Hay.
However, Patricia’s hopes of going one better this year with another another Ely City member, Christine Ratcliffe, were ended emphatically by a 7&5 loss to Abbotsley’s Marilyn Williams and Helen Johnson in round four.
Linda McDonald was also dreaming of an immediate return to finals week after reaching the last 16 with Elizabeth Wilson eight months ago.
But the Kilmarnock Barassie player also went out in the fourth round, alongside Anne Tweedie, when they were beaten by Gourock’s Ann Stephenson and Margaret Young, although the victors were again taken to the 18th hole before edging it by one hole.
All clubs must make it through seven rounds to reach finals week, which this year will be held at Marriott Dalmahoy, just outside Edinburgh.
