Lancaster through to sixth round

Daily Mail

MARTIN KIPPAX is a well-known name on the golf scene in Lancashire. The former county player, who played in the 1969 Open championship, served as president of the Lancashire Union of Golf Clubs.
During three years as chairman of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club’s championship committee, which spanned the club’s 250th anniversary, he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Jack Nicklaus and the Duke of York. He also served as a referee at the Masters and the Players’ Championship.
His experiences are light years removed from those of a namesake in Lancashire, a 60-year-old farmer from Lancaster.
But this Martin Kippax has a chance of making his own small impression on the golfing world this year thanks to an impressive run of success in the Daily Mail Foursomes.
Martin and fellow Lancaster golfer Michael Slater are just two more wins away from reaching finals week after their most convincing victory to date in the fifth round.
Their 4&3 victory over Penrith’s Gary Blenkingship and Marcus Dixon was the fifth time in five matches they had wrapped up their progress without having to go as far as the 18th hole.
The finals this year will be played at Marriott Dalmahoy, the James Braid-designed venue outside Edinburgh that has hosted the Solheim Club.
