Linlithgow ladies look for Dalmahoy re-match

MARGO GARDNER left frustrated the last time the finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes visited Marriott Dalmahoy in her native Scotland.
Now the Linlithgow golfer is just one win away from again making the short 19-mile trip from her home club to the Edinburgh venue when finals week returns to Dalmahoy in October.
Torrential rain made life difficult when Margo and clubmate Sandra McNee reached the last 16 in 2011, and they finished in the pack.
But three years on, Margo and current playing partner Cathie Donnelly made it into the last round before finals week with a 3&2 victory over Burntisland Golf House’s Anne Main and Lynn Thom in the sixth round.
A second finals appearance in three years will be quite an achievement for Margo, 41, who plays off six despite taking up the game only six years ago.
‘I decided about two-and-a-half years ago that I would get a lesson every week and that has helped,’ she said. ‘But it is still not easy.’
However, she has not talked to her playing partner about how close they are to the showpiece. ‘I think Cathie might have a panic attack,’ Margo joked.
The name of Great Torrington went on the men’s trophy when the finals were held at Marriott Dalmahoy in 2008. However, the Devon club’s hopes of repeating the feat this year ended in the sixth round when Steve Baker and Peter Andronik were beaten by one hole by Shirehampton Park brothers Jamie and Paul Burt.
