Past champions all knocked out

Daily Mail
17 Jun 2014

LESLIE DIAMOND and Moira Sleeman became the last of the former champions to bow out of the women’s tournament in this year’s Daily Mail Foursomes.
The 2007 champions, from the Sandy Lodge club in Middlesex, fell in the third round when beaten by two holes by Porters Park’s Anita Healy and Anita Prosser.
Last year’s winners Elaine Meagher and Linda Reeves, who play at Little Hay, just 15 miles down the road from Sandy Lodge over the county border into Hertfordshire, suffered a similar feat to their neighbours when also beaten by two holes.
But their demise came a round earlier when Aldwickbury Park’s Pauline Anderson and Anna Greenwood sent them packing.
Stocksbridge & District mother and daughter Hilja and Liana O’Sullivan, who won the Daily Mail Foursomes in 2012, also went out in the second round, losing by one hole to Elaine Exley and Dawn Warren, from the Owston Hall in Doncaster.
The women from Aldwickbury Park and Owston Hall obviously took strength from taking prized second-round scalps and both pairings went on to record convincing triumphs in round three.
Pauline and Anna beat Redbourne’s Trish Keens and Jean Davies 5&3 while Elaine and Dawn knocked out Crookhill Park’s Carol Walker and Lizzie File by an almost emphatic 5&4 margin.
All pairings must win through seven rounds to reach finals week, which this year will be hosted by the Marriott Dalmahoy complex outside Edinburgh.
