2013 Mens Champions suffer early exit

HOLDERS Dan Housley and Chris Drabble saw their defence of the Daily Mail Foursomes’ men’s title come to an end in only the second round of this year’s tournament.
The Horsley Lodge golfers, who both play for Derbyshire, lifted the trophy at Marriott St Pierre in October when they triumphed over Moss Valley’s Leslie Waddell and Craig Goodwin in a tense final.
But they suffered an early exit this time around when Chevin’s Paul Akers and fellow Derbyshire player Paul Tatlow pulled off a comfortable 5&3 victory.
The Moss Valley pairing suffered a similar fate this year. Leslie and Craig breezed through the first round with a 6&4 victory over Mold’s Brian Frain and Richard Jones. But they were also beaten in the second round, 2&1 by Wrexham’s Steve McKevit and Lee Tattum.
Bohunt Manor’s David Strike and Ian Munday went out in the quarter-finals in October. But they have already gone one better than last year’s finalists this time around, having beaten Liphook’s Alistair Hardie and Charlie Scott 3&2 in the second round.
This year’s finals will be held at Marriott Dalmohoy, outside Edinburgh, which last held the showpiece in 2011. Then Matthew Burge and Craig Birch, from Fulford Heath, lifted the men’s trophy.
This year the West Midlands club were represented by Andrew Osborne and Nigel Taylor, who breezed through their first-round match at Gay Hill 5&4 before going down 7&6 to Edward Hull and David Myers, from Ladbrook Park, in the second round.
