North Wilts pair go through at last minute

Daily Mail

MARK ROBERTS and Karl Hatala survived an incredible rollercoaster clash to become one of the last pairs to book their place at the Daily Mail Foursomes’ finals week.
The North Wilts golfers looked to be coasting to victory when they won four of the opening five holes against Test Valley’s David Brown and Chris Forrister.
But their opponents won the next five holes, producing four birdies by the 10th, to stand on the 11th tee one up.
Mark and Karl levelled the match when the Test Valley pairing gifted them the 15th hole by finding water, and the North Wilts golfers also won the 17th hole to finally edge in front once more.
David and Chris produced a miraculous par at the last after finding the rough, but Mark and Karl held their nerve for a two-putt which sealed a one-hole victory.
The line-ups for finals week have now been completed, with 16 women’s pairing having won through from an initial entry of over 1,600. Similarly, the entry of over 1,400 men’s pairings have been whittled down to the last 16.
The finals this year will be played at Marriott St Pierre, the Chepstow venue which has hosted the British Masters on numerous occasions as well as the Solheim Cup.
