Horsley Lodge dash Coxmoors dreams of a Finals return

LIKE stocks and shares, past performance is no guarantee of future success in the Daily Mail Foursomes.
Martin Scouthern’s stock, for example, was at its peak almost 15 years ago, when he reached finals week. However, the two-time Nottinghamshire Amateur Champion crashed alongside fellow Coxsmoor golfer Fraser Darrington in the sixth round this year, when they were beaten 3&2 by Horsley Lodge’s Chris Drabble and Dan Housley.
Now Chris and Dan stand just one more victory away from an appearance in finals week themselves, although John and Craig Jennings, from St Thomas’s Priory, might have something to say about that.
The Jennings brothers set up a seventh-round clash against the Horsley Lodge pairing with a convincing 6&4 victory over Brookfield’s Martin Stockton and Matthew Jackson in round six.
St Thomas’s Priory could be represented at finals week by their men’s and women’s pairings, with both having made it to this year’s seventh round. Michelle McHale and Val Rooney beat Mickleover’s Jean Bingham and Gill Stacey 4&3 to stand one match off the showpiece, which this year will be hosted by Marriott St Pierre.
Campbell Donaldson looked the blue-chip entrant left in the men’s draw. But Campbell and fellow Downfield golfer Kenneth MacArthur found the company of Milnathort father and son Donald and Ian Brown too hot to handle as they went down 5&4 in the sixth round.
