Little Hay slays giants on way to 8th round

Daily Mail

LITTLE HAY is unlikely to feature on a list of the most illustrious golf clubs in Great Britain. But the Hertfordshire pay and play can now boast at least one distinction after two of its members became the first to seal a place at finals week in this year’s Daily Mail Foursomes.
And Linda Reeve and Elaine Meagher can boast a victory over one of their region’s most prestigious clubs on their way to the showpiece.
The Little Hay golfers sealed their place at finals week with a 3&2 triumph over Farnham Park’s Helen Parr and Jane Seabrook in the seventh round.
That followed an even more convincing 4&3 victory over Woburn’s Sheila Harrison and Jane Wetherall in the previous round.
Woburn boasts Ian Poulter as its touring professional and its three courses - the Marquis, the Dukes and the Duchess - all featured in Golf Monthly’s top 100 courses in Britain for 2012.
Now Linda and Elaine will get the chance to play at another top championship course as this year’s finals will take place at Marriott St Pierre, the Chepstow venue which has hosted the British Masters no fewer than eight times as well as the Solheim Cup.
Matt Wall and Mark Hibbitt, from the Thorpe Hall club in Essex, became the first pairing to win through to finals week in the men’s draw when they beat Sussex county player Richard Fung-On and David Blundell, from the Nevill club, 4&2 in the seventh round.
