County ladies continue through to third round

Daily Mail
26 Apr 2013

AFTER losing in the final of the Ayrshire women’s county championship earlier this month, Audrey Thompson will be looking to go one better in this year’s Daily Mail Foursomes.
Audrey was beaten 3&1 by Troon Ladies’ Connie Jaffrey in the final of her county competition.
But Audrey and Elizabeth Keohone, from Loudoun Gowf Club, continued their progress in the Daily Mail Foursomes by edging a tight second-round match against Caprington’s Mary White and Linda Kenny by one hole.
Former Aberdeenshire girls champion and Scottish Schools semi-finalist Mhairi Johnstone also reached the third round after she team up with Caitlin Geddes, from the Northern club, to beat Aboyne’s Maureen Wilson and Elaine Watson 4&3.
Gillian Kinnear, a Buckinghamshire champion of champions and an Oxford blue a record four times, teamed up with fellow Gerrard’s Cross member Lisa Allen to beat The Buckinghamshire’s Debbie Harridge and Siobhan McCartan 3&2 in the second round.
But former British ladies strokeplay champion and Sussex county finalist Karen Sykes is out. Karen and fellow Worthing member Kathy Langham were beaten finalists in the 2006 foursomes when they lost the final to Manchester’s Kelly Tidy and Elaine Clark. But this year they couldn’t get past the second round, in which Chichester’s Kathleen Donohue and Elaine Fell triumphed 3&2.
This year’s finals will be held at Marriott St Pierre, a former home for the Solheim Cup and British Masters, in Chepstow.
