Eye on the prize for Seacroft ladies

ONE of the senior citizens of the Daily Mail Foursomes is again showing she is far from ready to hang up her clubs.
Moira Wilson, who will be 64 on May 1, won the foursomes trophy as long ago as 1989, when she played with future Curtis Cup player Helen Dobson. And she showed she had not lost her touch last October by reaching the quarter-finals with Tara Massey.
Now Moira and Tara, from the Seacroft club near Skegness, are on their way again after a two-hole victory over Sandilands’ Freda Smith and Sylvia Robson in the second round.
Moira also reached finals week in 2005 when partnered by Hannah Seymour. The finals that year were held at Marriott St Pierre, so Moira will be looking to be there again when they return to the Chepstow venue this October.
Moira and Tara are one of three female pairings still looking to make an immediate return to finals week after featuring at the Marriott Forest of Arden last October.
Dunfermline’s Sam Burton and Sarah Govan, who reached the final 16 last year, are still going strong after beating Jane Ferguson and Rosemary Easson, from the Saline club, 2&1 in the second round, while Royal Tarlair’s Rae Topping and Priscilla Smart, who also made the quarter-finals in October, have made it to the third round as well.
But there will be no return for Tytherington’s Carole Ryder and Gill Singh, who lost to Prestbury’s Jenny Purves and Mary Staton 2&1 in the second round.
Stocksbridge & District’s Liana O’Sullivan, half of last year’s winning partnership, went out in the first round with new partner Eunice Turner.
