Downfield head to Forest of Arden

Daily Mail
18 Sep 2012

GRAHAM BELL has made it all the way to the Marriott Forest of Arden as he looks to add the Daily Mail Foursomes to an already glittering resume.
The Downfield golfer, from the Tayside area of Scotland, won the Angus county strokeplay championship, the county matchplay title and was part of the six-man Downfield team that won the county inter-club championship last .
He has also won a number of Scottish seniors titles, teaming up with Richard Scott in the pairs events.
And Graham and Richard reached the Daily Mail Foursomes’ finals week at the Marriott Forest of Arden with a 3&2 victory over Mike McIntosh and Adam Rennie at Crieff.
However, Graham, who plays off plus two, and Richard know they won’t have it all their own way at the showpiece after reaching finals week at Marriott St Pierre in 2005, only to lose to the eventual champions Mark Wootten and Anthony Killick, from Willingdon, in the last 16.
One of his main challenges could come from scratch golfer Martyn Walker, from the Forest of Dean. He reached finals week with Paul Williams when they beat Robert Iam Thomas and Gwynhefin Evans, from South Wales club Palleg, also 3&2 in the seventh round.
Finals will take place at the West Midlands venue, which has hosted events such as the British Masters and English Open, in October.
