Hosts won't field a team at Forest of Arden

HOME players will be confined to the role of spectators at the finals of this year’s Daily Mail Foursomes after the men and women from the Marriott Forest of Arden both went out in the fourth round.
Having a pairing from the West Midlands club at this year’s final week looked an increasingly likely possibility as both their men’s and women’s representatives battled through the first three rounds.
Scott Rawlins and John Jackson made it through after being taken to the first extra hole in each of their two previous games, having beaten Olton’s Kevin Bent and Louis Meryon in the second round and Burton-on-Trent’s Mark Parker and Kristian Hansen in round three.
But they finally came unstuck in the fourth round as they were beaten 3&2 by Warwick’s Ian Carden and Robert Buckingham.
Irene Langley and Lynda Ward followed their Marriott Forest of Arden clubmates out of the tournament when they were beaten 6&4 by North Warwickshire’s Samantha Stanley and Christine Copper at the same stage.
The Marriott Forest of Arden, which has hosted European Tour events, including the British Masters and English Open, will host the Daily Mail Foursomes’ finals week in October, when the last 16 men’s and last 16 women’s pairings will fight it out for the two prestigious trophies.
