Mid Kent march on.

Daily Mail
17 May 2012

BEWARE the men of Mid Kent when the year ends in an even number.
The Gravesend club, who celebrated their centenary in 2009, sent a men’s pairing to the finals week at the Daily Mail Foursomes in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
Now Tony Lovell and Kurt Dennison hope they are on their way to extending that proud record after reaching the third round of this year’s tournament.
Tony and Kurt carved out a comfortable 4&3 victory over Mardyke Valley’s Michael Kavanagh and Bob Mitchell in the second round, having hammered Alan Hughes and Steve Murphy from Bexleyheath 8&6 in their opening match.
They will be looking for the omens of Mid Kent’s finals week record and their ever improving performances in the showpiece to combine to take them all the way to the title at the Marriott Forest of Arden this October.
Bruce Galbraith and Neil Pattison were beaten in the quarter-finals by Whittaker’s Stuart Mather and Ian Black in 2006, while Damien Smith and Clive Higgs were also in the top eight two years later.
But Damien’s twin brother Darren and uncle Barry Smith made it all the way to the final in 2010, beaten only by Boldon’s Stuart Pinder and Lee Chape as the North East pairing went on to lift the trophy.
So Tony and Kurt will be out to go one better.
