No return for 2011 men's Semi-Finalists

ALL four clubs who sent pairs to the men’s semi-finals of last year’s Daily Mail Foursomes have seen their entries go out in the first round this time around.
Fulford Heath saw their name go on the foursomes trophy in October when Matthew Burge and Craig Birch beat Wentworth’s Alan Healy and Alex Paramor in the final at Marriott Dalmahoy.
But there will be no repeat this year after Gary Need and Barry Holden went down 3&2 to Kings Norton’s Krys Stanton and Lee Jones, while Wentworth’s Harry McCreanor and Tom Lovelock were beaten by one hole by Windlesham’s Jeffery Rankin and Cliff Conway.
Cavendish’s Richard Atherton and Steve Bailey fell short of the semi-final achievement of clubmates Stephen and Peter Bell when they lost by one hole to Macclesfield’s Rob Blech and Em Williams while King’s Lynn’s Neil Jary and Mike Easey were beaten 3&1 by Tydd St Giles’ Kevin Goude and Leigh Chapman. The West Norfolk club also reached the semi-final last year when represented by Matthew Bowman and Philip Gurr.
Over 3,000 pairings set out in the first round of either the men’s or women’s Daily Mail Foursomes this year from an estimated entry of over a quarter of a million amateur players who contested the numerous qualifying events.
The finals this year will be played in October at the Marriott Forest of Arden in the West Midlands.
