Wood falls at the fourth

IT WASN'T father's day for Richard Wood as he bowed out of the Daily Mail Foursomes in the fourth round.
Richard, whose son, Chris Wood, is a well-known player on the European Tour, showed he can also wield a club as he joined David Milton in representing Long Ashton in the foursomes.
After beating Bristol & Clifton's Carey Ashworth and Mike Blake by two holes in round two, they produced an emphatic 6&4 victory over Rob Braund and Lewis Pristo at Lansdown in the third round.
However, their hopes of making the finals were ended when they lost by two holes to Jerry Walker and Shane Painter at Bristol in the fourth round.
Chris has become a common feature on European Tour leaderboards since bursting on to the scene in the 2008 Open at Royal Birkdale, when he finished tied fifth as an amateur. He tied for third place at the following year's Open at Turnberry, when he finished just a shot away from making the play-off, and went close to achieving his first Tour victory this year, when he lost a play-off for the Africa Open to Open champion Louis Oosthuizen at the East London club in South Africa in January.
Chris has obviously inherited some of his talent and love for golf from father Richard, 54, who plays off a handicap of just three and is a former club champion at Long Ashton.
Richard caddied for his son at one of his Open appearances and at last year's Masters and played alongside him last September at the Vivendi Cup in Paris, which doubles as a European Tour and pro-am event.
