Dartford duo ease through

Daily Mail

MICHAEL SAUNDERS lifted the Kent county title for the second successive year at the weekend, three days after leading Dartford into the fifth round of the Daily Mail Foursomes.
The 20-year-old prospect, who successfully defended his county trophy at the Sir Nick Faldo-designed Chart Hills club, partnered Stewart Gray to a 3&2 victory over Gatton Manor's Mark Dawson and John Humphries in the foursomes fourth round.
The Dartford pair are warming to their foursomes challenge. After edging past Mark Williams and Lee Cole on the first extra hole at Birchwood Park in round two, they beat Theydon Bois' Adrian Hart and Ian Carter 2&1 before sealing their largest winning margin to date against their Gatton Manor opponents.
Michael and Stewart were simply too hot to live with in the fourth round, being around three under par for the 16 holes they played before sealing their success.
Michael is playing full-time on the amateur circuit this year before launching a bid to earn a professional card. As well as taking the Kent title, he finished fourth in the Emirates Amateur Open in Dubai, having led into the final round. Next up is the British Amateur Championship at Hillside on Merseyside, which starts a week tomorrow.
Now he is looking forward to a fruitful autumn as he launches his bid at the European Tour qualifying school in September while also hoping to reach the finals of the foursomes at Marriott Dalmahoy, near Edinburgh, the following month.
