Great Scots in final surge

Daily Mail

A TRIO of Scottish lasses are striving to reach a second successive finals week in the Daily Mail Foursomes.
And this year they have the added incentive of the finals being held on home soil, at Marriott Dalmahoy outside Edinburgh.
Mother and daughter Carol and Gwen Lambie, who reached the semi-finals at Marriott St Pierre last October, made it to the third round this time around with a 5&4 victory over Craigie Hill's Lyn Gowrie and Irene Twinn.
But Cathkin Braes' Jenny Potter, knocked out in the last 16 when playing with Nan Brunton in October, did not have it all her own way in this year's second round. Jenny, 21, who represented Lanarkshire at junior level, and her new playing partner, May Hughes, were taken to the 20th hole by Ann Sutherland and Viv Nichol, from Cathcart Castle.
Carol, 62, first reached finals week as long ago as 1975 and last year was her fourth appearance in the showpiece. Daughter Gwen, 29, a Perth and Kinross county player, teamed up with her mother nine years ago and last year was their first appearance together in the finals.
In England, Janet Tedstone and Linda Burnley, from Willow Valley, moved a step closer to repeating last year's finals appearance with a 4&3 win over Selby's Mary Burdekin and Aileen Stockton in round two.
