Quarter Finals Match Report

Daily Mail
18 Oct 2010

Carol Lambie's decision to give up a holiday in Spain is paying dividends after the 61-year-old Scot reached the semi-finals for the first time in her fourth appearance at the Daily Mail Foursomes' finals week.
The Dunkeld & Birnam golfer had not made it past the last 16 in her previous three finals week appearances, stretching back to 1975.
But she teamed up with daughter Gwen, 29, at Marriott St Pierre yesterday to beat Bedale's Susan Lamb and Joan Sanderson 4&3 before pulling off a 3&2 victory over Spalding's Pat West and Liz Holbrook in the quarter-finals.
Carol said: 'We were due to fly to Spain yesterday, but my husband said, “You can go to Spain another year. You might not get the chance to do this again.'
Denise Hill used her local knowledge to good effect as the former Wales and Monmouthshire player partnered Nic Matthews to a 7&5 victory over Braehead's Jennifer Ure and Laura Bissett. But Denise and Nic had to go to the first extra hole before toppling Gatton Manor's Rita Rice and Kim Newman in their quarter-final.
Denise was a member at Marriott St Pierre for six years, during which time she represented the club in the Mail on Sunday Classic finals in Portgale. However Denise and Nic were representing another Monmouthshire club, Raglan Parc, in this year's Daily Mail Foursomes.
Willow Valley kept alive their hopes of a unique double triumph in the men's and women's competitions after Janet Tedstone and Linda Burnley survived an epic last 16 struggle against Buckingham's Bernadette Howe and Elaine Harrison, winning on the fourth extra hole, before Johnn Reddy and Tom Branker were taken to the third extra hole by Shirley's Craig Waller and Rob Seaton in the afternoon quarter-finals..
