Willow Valley Ladies may be matched by Men's team

FORMER England cricket internationals Janet Tedstone and Linda Burnley have become the first pairing to win through to this year's finals week – and that has left their Willow Valley club halfway to achieving a remarkable double.
The West Yorkshire establishment were the only club in the country to have both their men's and women's pairings make it to the seventh round, meaning they were both one game from reaching finals week at Marriott St Pierre in October.
Janet, 50, and Linda, who played cricket for their country in the 1990s, achieved the feat with a convincing 5&4 weekend win over Owston Hall's Dawn Warren and Cynthia Briggs.
Now John Reddy and Tom Branker are looking to emulate the ladies in their seventh-round clash.
John, 27, said: 'It would be brilliant to do that. The ladies team are quite well known locally but a bit of national recognition would be nice. To get two pairings through would get people talking about Willow Valley.'
John and Tom, 18, made it into the seventh round with a 3&2 success over Headingley's Geoff Brook and Michael Flahive at Willow Valley. But they must now make the 40-mile trip to Ashton on Mersey to contest a place at finals week.
John, a printer and engineer for Best Impressions, who print individual names and logos on golf balls and shirts, is confident he and Tom can continue to make an impression on the course.
He said: 'I am hopeful. We are both steady players, so we keep each other on the course, which is important in this format. But I have had some back trouble, so it just depends on the day.'
Tom, a drummer in two bands, starts a music technology degree at Huddersfield University in September but he is hoping to be a big noise on the golf course before that.
