Former Scotland international golfer sees Duddingston through to round six

FORMER Scotland international Stuart Smith is just two games away from finals week after victory in round five.
But former professional Michael Franklin is out after he and Stuart Trigwell, from Staverton Park in Northamptonshire, were beaten at the same stage.
Newsagent Stuart, 43, is looking to make the headlines after he and David Graham, from the Duddingston club in Edinburgh, continued their run of tight triumphs with a 2&1 victory over Derek Page and Alan Duncan at Melrose.
Stuart has played top amateur golf for 30 years, representing Scotland and winning the Lothian county title on four occasions. But he and David have still been taken to the 18th hole twice and the 17th hole on the other two occasions in their last four games in the foursomes.
Stuart still plays off plus two. He said: 'I thought about turning pro years ago but it was a very quick thought. I am probably thinking more about it now. There is the Seniors when you turn 50, and there are a lot of events on the Scottish tour.'
Michael, 29, was a rookie professional for about two-and-a-half years and won thousands of pounds in regional pro-ams about 10 years ago. But the pressure of standing on the first tee knowing he was trying to make a living buried his love of the game.
Now he is enjoying playing amateur golf off a plus-one handicap and representing Northamptonshire, although his love of the game might have been tested by a 5&4 beating by Banbury's Paul Tuzzio and Peter Hall in the foursomes.
Michael blamed a weekend of golf for the defeat for him and Stuart, better known as the face of the Football League on Sky TV's Soccer AM programme. They had played 36 holes in the county foursomes championship two days earlier, while Michael had put in another 18 the day before in a club event.
