Denbigh win 3 from 3 to take match to extra holes

ANY pair will have to put in the hard yards if they go the distance in the Daily Mail Foursomes. But James and Stanley Roberts have already gone the extra mile to win an extraordinary fourth-round match at Holywell.
The father and son, from Denbigh in North Wales, trailed the home club's Tim Saunders and Anthony Goundrey by three holes with three to play.
But they won each of the last three holes before closing out victory at the 22nd, having covered the best part of an extra mile in the process.
Their struggle was in stark contrast to the previous two rounds, when the games on their home course had hardly entered the back nine before they closed out victory.
They beat Old Colwyn's Peter Griffiths and Neil Chapman 9&8 in the second round before defeating Neil Snowden and Emlyn Williams, of Storws Wen, 7&6 in round three.
But their fourth-round exertions were perhaps hardly surprising given that their opponents were Flintshire county players who reached the semi-finals of the Welsh Victory Shield, a foursomes tournament played off scratch at Royal Porthcawl.
James and Stanley used the shots they were given to good effect to win two of the last three holes in normal time, but they almost lost it on the first extra hole when Anthony's seven-foot birdie putt for the win lipped out.
In the end, a net par at the long par-three fourth extra hole proved enough to send the visitors through.
But their quest to reach this year's finals week at another Welsh venue, Marriott St Pierre, is still just over halfway complete and they will have to win another three matches to make the showpiece for the last 16 men's and women's pairs.
