Previous winners Oakridge fall at Leamington hurdle

Daily Mail

KATIE BEALE became the last of a hat-trick of former champions to exit this year's Daily Mail Foursomes when the Oakridge golfer and partner Andrea Mace were beaten in the fourth round on Saturday.
Katie and Patricia Holt won the trophy at Marriott Forest of Arden in 2004. Katie said: 'It was a fantastic, fantastic experience and something that the club remembers as well. It is still mentioned in the clubhouse.'
Katie and Andrea looked on course for a place at this year's finals at Marriott St Pierre as they breezed through the opening two rounds, 6&4 over Coventry Hearsall and 9&8 over Kenilworth. They followed up those wins with a two-hole success at Robin Hood.
But their run was brought to an end on Saturday as Margaret Sheepy and Sheila Metcalfe chalked up a 4&2 victory at Leamington & County.
Katie said: 'It wasn't that much of a shock. Leamington was a wonderful course and in very good condition, but we didn't gel as well as we usually do and we found the greens very fast, which was probably an advantage to our opponents, who are more used to them.'
Katie has had a number of attempts at repeating her 2004 success. But she still has not bettered the seventh-round exit she achieved the year before she lifted the trophy.
Players have to win through seven rounds before the last 16 pairs fight it out at finals week.
* Elaine Clarke, of Manchester, who won the trophy with Kelly Tidy at Marriott Dalmahoy in 2006, went out in the second round when Irene Muldowney and Heidi Woodhead, of Todmorden, beat her and Karen Clayton 4&3.
* Moira Sleeman, of Sandy Lodge, who lifted the trophy with Lesley Diamond at the Marriott Forest of Arden in 2007, lost to Emma Goss and Teresa Jordan, of Bushey Hall, 5&3 when partnered by Lesley Mulley in this year's competition.
