LETHAM GRANGE will be sending a pair to the Daily Mail Foursomes' finals week at the first attempt after the Scottish club realised this season they had been missing an opportunity.

The Tayside set-up had entered the Mail on Sunday Classic regularly over the last few years, but their officials did not realise they could enter the Daily Mail competition as well.

However, Walter Forbes and Graeme McGinnis made up for lost time by earning a place in October's showpiece at the Marriott Forest of Arden as the club's first entrants into the foursomes event. 'We couldn't do much better than that,' said delighted club secretary Ian Christine.

'We are actually over the moon about what Walter and Graeme have achieved. There is only three qualifiers from Scotland and, although Letham Grange is a great golf course, it has only about four or five hundred members. 'We have had a committee meeting and decided to kit them out with jerseys and shirts so that they can represent the club with pride. We have also decided to pay their petrol expenses. 'Myself and the treasurer will be going down to support them as well, although it is a long way to go, so there will be only six or eight of us.'

Walter and Graeme will join 15 other men's teams and 16 women's teams at finals week at the luxurious West Midlands venue.
