Former finalists out in the fourth

TWO more leading lights have gone out in this year's Daily Mail Foursomes at the fourth-round stage.

Wales international Hannah Jenkins was part of the Cradoc pairing beaten by Kington's Anita Dart and Phillippa Frost, while former foursomes champion Elaine Clark and former finalist Karen Clayton, of Manchester, were knocked out at Rochdale.

Victory was sweet for Rochdale's Bev Scholes and Jane Anthrobus, who lost to their Greater Manchester rivals when representing Oldham in the Mail on Sunday Classic this season.

Jane, 51, said: 'The funny thing was that Elaine and Karen had a half-page feature in the Rochdale Observer about them winning the Northern Foursomes.'

Phillippa Frost had also faced Hannah Jenkins previously, when handed a baptism of fire against a player who had been part of the Wales team that won the Home Internationals championship while representing Kington for the first time, also in the Mail on Sunday Classic.

She walked away then with a precious half.

There were no half measures this time as the Rochdale and Kington pairs both won their matches by the 14th hole, Kington triumphing 6& 4 and Rochdale 5&4.
