Sidney back on the title track

Daily Mail
12 May 2009

Steve Sidney is darling to dream again of Daily Mail Foursomes success 12 years after lifting the men’s trophy.

Steve, 43, and Nigel Knight put the name of Bournemouth club Queens Park on the trophy at Royal Porthcawl in 1997.

This season he is enjoying probably his best run since winning the event, reaching the third round with new partner Matt Doughty after a 4&3 victory over Burley’s Bill Collinge and Kevin Rickman.

Steve said: ‘I’m keen to do well because I know what a prestigious event this is. It is hard to win every round and you need a bit of luck.’ Steve said his 1997 win: ‘We had me wife Cathy, Nigel’s wife Liz and our caddie John Challen’s wife Tracey with us, and everyone kept saying, “Oh, here come the Spice Girls”.’ Any chance of a Spice Girls reunion was dashed when Nigel needed a knee operation.
